An Apple IIe replacement motherboard currently costs $50 and the IIe to
IIGS upgrade board costs $99.

I am sure current technology could bring down the price a bit more, and
hey if it has to go to $225 to yield a profit, so be it.

You also need to consider some other factors, the ram doesn't need to be as
fast as todays, it doesn't need a fan, etc.

Look at the complexity of some PC motherboards which don't sell for much
more than $99. I believe that costwise, this computer would be very doable.
