I was flipping through a couple of boxes of old Mac disks today that
contain software I downloaded from info-mac back in about 1988-89. One
of them has a Mac extension (well it was called an 'init' then) called
"interlace" which has the following description (approximately):
Interlace is an init which sets the Mac II video card into interlace
mode so that if you have a plain Apple RGB monitor you can use it
to see color on your Mac II.
Now Mac II's usually were sold with either a 12" B&W monitor or the 13"
AppleColor _High Resolution_ Color Monitor as opposed to the IIgs'
12" AppleColor Monitor. The 13" Mac monitor didn't need interlace mode
of course, so I'm wondering, could the "plain Apple RGB monitor" mentioned
actually be the IIgs monitor? That old Toby Frame Buffer card had some
odd capabilities and I wouldn't be surprised if it could be programmed
to work with a IIgs monitor in 640x400 interlaced mode. Does anyone know
for sure if this is the case?
As It happens, I have a Mac II with a Toby card and an Apple IIgs with
a 12" AppleColor RGB monitor. I could just install the extension and plug
and play to find out, but I don't want to damage anything.
