Zip stuff, yet again...
Well, I finally got my Zip working with a big 8k of cache ... Still
working on that part... but anyway, I noticed that when I had my
crystal for 14mhz operation in, it benchmarked at about 270 dhrystones.
At 12mhz, it goes _up_ to 780.
Actually, though, my 56mhz crystal is really 56.644. I thought it would
be harmless to have a fractional crystal--I scavanged it from an old PC
video card--but in fact, the Zip reacts very strangely; it reports
1.1mhz operation with that crystal. Apparently, fractions of Mhz
confuse the Zip.
The moral of this story is, if you're going to be cheap and scavange
parts from dead cards, at least make sure you scavange common ones.
BTW, would anyone have any suggestions as to why only the first 8k of
cache seems to work with my Zip? I've tried several different chip
combinations--pretty much all of the chips work in the 8k positions...

I know what you're thinkin'; "What could be weirder then a big, fat-ass
flyin' cupcake?" How about one that spits tobacco juice? <spoo!>
