Sc| (excuse my lack of quoting but I can't figure out how)
Sc| I've had exactly the same problem on GROUND... I can't download
| Shrinkit files, or any binary files for that matter. I believe that
| the problem can be traced to the fact that these files contain BINARY
| information, but have their filetype set to ASCII. This confuses LYNX
| and it can't open it. On the other hand, HQX (BinHex) and plain text
| documents open fine, since they are marked as text and actually
| contain it.
Sc| As of yet I have not found a way to get around this :< so I have not
| been able to download from GROUND yet. I am currently using a
| graphical browser on my PC, so I am going to try and see if it does
| the same thing.. Perhaps the folks running GROUND would be able to
| help us if we could get in touch with them (I couldn't find an E-mail
| address on the site.)
I use lynx on my unix account with similar problems, but I can download
the file. If I press <RETURN> when the file is highlighted, I get garbage
on the screen. If I press <D> to download the file when it is highlighted
it downloads and then gives me an option to save. This way works fine and
everything un-shrinks ok on my //e.
A while back somebody posted a method to get lynx to recognize shrinkit
and binaryII extentions. I tried this and it works great! Now when I
press <RETURN> on a highlighted filename it tells me that it cannot
display this file, do I want to download it. (which of course I do)
The file you need is called .mime.types - that is with a preceding dot
(.) Mine is in my $HOME dir and has rw-r--r-- permissions. I can run lynx
from any dir and it work's great. I can't remember the http address of
the guy's page where I got it from, so here it is..
