Re: Apple 2gs monitor

(all stuff about discharging the caps in a CRT snipped...all of it good
advice)

I suggest connecting the monitor to a good ground while performing the
discharge. An easy way to do this is to plug the monitor into a
plugged-in but turned-off power strip; a safer way is to run a clip-lead
from some ground point on the monitor (such as the ground pin on the power
cord) to a suitable electrical ground...in many cases, the box screw on a
convenient electrical outlet is sufficient provided that the installer
bonded the outlet properly.

Likewise, we've all read that when installing or removing boards in our
computers we should touch the power supply before touching anything else,
and that the computer should be turned off before installing or removing
boards. A frequently overlooked precaution is to LEAVE THE COMPUTER
PLUGGED IN when touching the power supply case, so that the static charge
actually has some path to ground.
