Maybe because Atari has strong game-console connotations to most 
people...dunno about the 64, probably marketing.

The //c was pitched (probably in print) as "The first transportable 
computer worth taking anywhere".  With a decent keyboard, a built in 
floppy drive, the ability to hook up to a monitor or TV with nothing more 
than an RCA cable, and a nice handle, it was probably true.
