I remember a handful of Apple II television commercials that
ran from the mid to late 80s. I vagely recall a series of ads that
promoted the introduction of the Apple IIc back when I was in Jr.High,
though nothing specifically for the Apple II+ or IIe alone.

What I do specifically remember were the Apple IIgs ads, I can
think of at least three: First there was the "left/right brain" ad,
showing someone drawing on a chalk board (one hand writes complex math
formulas, the other recreates some famous work of art) which tries to show
the GS capable of appealing to both a person's creative and productive
sides, or perhaps the GS's split personality. The next mainly focused on
the IIgs, although it includes some pushing of the IIe/IIc as well. One
scene shows a young girl printing school report using an Apple IIgs with
an ImageWriter II (text with full color graphics) and exclaims, "They're
gonna freak when they see this!". Then various other scenes of children
using Apple II's and IIgs's for educational and recreational purposes.
The final commercial I remember plays a well-known piano theme (the name
slips me, ____ & Glory?) while an announcer talks about the benefits of
the Apple IIgs as an educational tool for your children. Unfortunately I
wasn't able to capture any of these rare ads to video tape, though I _do_
know at least one or two of these exist in QuickTime format. I could have
sworn some were on ftp.apple.com years ago, but they seem to have vanished.

...Speaking of tapings, I did manage to grab a few episode of
the PBS show, The Computer Chronicles, from 1988. One was an entire show
dedicated to the Apple II, another featured games on the IIgs. Considering
the show is entirely PC/Mac based today, it is _very_ strange to see
Stewart Cheifet and Gary Kildall with an Apple IIgs in the studio, talking
about GS/OS and PaintWorks Gold, or watching PBI's staff showing off their
latest games. :) At least I have some proof on tape that the Apple II
exists. ;-)
