ZMODEM and freenets

I find that ZMODEM doesnt work (only Kermit is ok) when I download
files from websites via freenets.
I can save to disk and then can d/l from disk using ZMODEM.
Why doesnt ZMODEM work when I d/l directly from www to my computer?
Is this a GS-specific problem?
Browser is LYNX on the freenet.
(SunOS).
If ZMODEM doesnt work with SunOS-LYNX, why offer this option in the first place?
