.... I wonder if the authors ever considered putting everything into
text files, adding some super-res graphics, music, and sound, and coming
out with a IIgs version?

I realize I'm just sorta jumping in here, but I saw your messages on
usenet
pertaining to Star Saga one and two. I found the messages using a search
tool. I
don't normally read this group, but I have been looking some new copies of
the
games.
Anyway, I wanted to respond to your comments about bumping up some
graphics and
putting the text into files for the IIGS version.

My friends, my wife and I played both games from start to highly
entertaining
finish. This was oh, six or seven years ago. We all agreed that one of the
main
reasons we all enjoyed the game so much is that there were very few
occasions when
anyone had to sit around waiting for a chance at the computer. By putting
movement
plotting on a map and the text in books the creators gave the players
plenty to do
in their 'down time'. A major frustration with many multi-player games is
having to
sit and read a book or something while everyone else takes their turns.
Star Saga
made that part of the experience. We played the games on an Apple IIGS in
a
comfortable room with plenty of chairs, snacks and refreshments and we
would 'not'
have wanted the text moved to the screen. Now, maybe some images, maps, or
visual
clues in the books would add something, but please, leave the terminal
time to a
minimum. ....
