Questions about the //gs

This may sound like a stupid question to some people, but I am rather new
to the //gs... I've been using one for only a couple months now.  I've
had a //c for years and years and know everything there is to know about
that little thing...hehehe...
Anyway... what exactly is the difference between a ROM 1 and ROM 3 //gs?
Anything significant.  The one I'm using now is a ROM 1, but if there's
a lot of difference, I'd look into a ROM 3.
Also, what accelerator is recommended for the //gs.  I've got a 8mhz
zip/gs right now...
