Good point! Certainly, it is true that, once one buys the card,
worrying about DMA access will minimally affect the probability that it
will occur.

A firm guarantee. Even so, one wonders just how the card decides that
it "needs" to go along with a DMA request. Suppose you add another 4MB and
the card feels that DMA to the new RAM is not really beneficial because it
would only encourage sloppy programming; and because, in any case, the
user is not worried about DMA.
