Re: Apple II just won't die.

There you all go again. Trying to turn the IIe into something it's not.
But a $150-250 based computer for school use seems reasonable.
I don't think 32-bit is necessary.
.
I hope this Tiger idea is true. Though a disk drive might be nice. We're
raising a whole generation of kids who don't know how to boot from disk.
.
The plain old IIgs seems more reasonable. The graphics and sound are
nice candy for school-age children and the fact that it has a modern
desktop where kids can learn how to drag icons, throw them in the trash
and such. Plus word processors and lay-out programs, along with
Hyperstudio, are pretty advanced compared to the IIe on the IIgs.
Midi and CD Rom are also better and don't foget HFS.
.
I'm hoping I have a kid soon so I can teach him stuff on my IIgs.
But I don't think any 3rd grader needs multi-tasking or a math co-processor
and why emulate 486s or the Mac? These extras will just raise the price of the
unit, making poorer schools have to buy less of them. Super VGA and the like...
c'mon.
.
Like the spare tire growing around my midsection, I've learned to
grow comfortable with my IIgs - even if it isn't a Jack Lalane.
