Hi, Garth!

I have one of those beasts running on a Mac IIfx at work.  It can send and
receive faxes at 9600 bps, but it's not a data modem at all.  The closest
Apple came was to release a utility that would allow AppleFax modems to
send files to other AppleFax modems -- no other modems were supported. 
While Apple's own software for the AppleFax was discontinued long ago,
Delrina (now actually Symantec) FaxPro for the Mac does work with the
AppleFax; that's what I use.  Symantec's engineers told me, BTW, that the
modem won't work on Power Macs at all; I haven't tested this, however.

As for //e compatibility, I've never seen any software that could make it
work because the modem uses a proprietary chip set.  But knowing the Apple
II community as I do, I'm hesitant to say it's impossible. :-)  Sun
Remarketing (800-SUN-0999) may still have the manual in stock if you're
interested.  (I don't have one, unfortunately.)
