  Under ProDOS valid filenames can not start with a digit or any
  character other than a letter.  "000.NDX" would be illegal.
  There is a patch for ProDOS which changes the naming conventions
  and several others for different programs including one for Angel
  which allow them to work with the patched ProDOS and allow different
  naming conventions.

  Try creating a file with a name starting with a digit such as
  "1.txt", "2.bas", or "000.ndx" using _ANY_ program... can you?
