I totally disagree that AOL supported the Apple II longer than it should have.
Supporting the Apple II didn't slow them down one minute! If anything it
helped them bridge the gap between ALPE and AOL. Remember the letter
everybody got from Steve Case asking them to stay? Supporting the Apple II
didn't slow them one second in developing the new software and when it was
ready the II access was cut. Personally I really miss ALPE/AOL, but then
again the system I miss doesn't exist anymore.
