Yes this IS possible!  I am using a card called Match Point made by a company called 
Micro Solutions that allows  5 1/4 Apple II disks to be read on a MS DOS machine.  
It works with older normal floppy drives but newer models may require a component 
change.  I can go into this more later if you prefer!

Fortuantely the drives already on the spare PC I decided to put the card into worked 
just fine - but I also had other compatible drives and found a source of some others 
VERY CHEAP!

BTW - the same company also makes a card called Match Maker that apapts and MAC lo 
density 3.5 drive to a PC.  In this case it really is a matter of different drives.

For the 5 1/4's - its only a question of bandwidth.
