apple2gs new owner, help if ya can

Hello,

  I am an old school Ibm/clone user from about 1978. I know the systems in and 
out from the trash 80-to pentium 180. I never indulged in the Apple 
Experience, mostly due to lack of exposure. but I just got a mint condition 
Apple IIgs with ROM01 , 512k(apple original ram expansion card), a 3/2, and 
51/4 drive with all manuals and a color printer.

  Obviously the computer works fine and i am polling elswhere for software. my 
ask for help is in the harware department.

 the manual says it will support 8 meg of ram, a cdrom, hardrives, modems etc.

 i would like to soop this 2gs up to 8 megs, a decsent cdrom, and boot it from 
a big hardrive(540 meg or better). but the original manuals are sadly lacking 
in explanation.

  any and all recomendations for the above upgrades and sources would be 
greatly apreciated.
