    A power supply flaw may be the culprit. Next time you turn it ON and
'nothing happens', check voltages on the motherboard. You can sample them
on the prongs of an empty slot. Pin numbers and voltages are shown below:

If any voltage is off by 10% or more-- especially, if a voltage is too
low-- then you probably need to fix or replace the power supply.

    If the voltages seem okay, then you may have a problem with your main
'clock' oscillator. Oscillator crystals can become less active,
transistors in an osc circuit may degrade, etc.; and, the oscillator has
more difficulty starting. Even moving the computer to a colder room can
cause oscillator startup problems.
