Re: USCD Pascal on a CFFA drive
Short example of auto-exec file to mount files as volumes using the
mount pgm in previous email.
%xdiskmount
m13
4
systems.dir
m14
4
utilities.dir
m15
4
attach.dir
q%%%%
Short explanation(s): autorun pgm diskmount
mount on unit 13 a file on unit 4 named systems.dir
mount on unit 14 a file on unit 4 named utilities.dir
mount on unit 15 a file on unit 4 named attach.dir
quit diskmount
Each .dir file was created with as many blocks you wanted and is kept
as contiguous blocks. Once mounted, a .dir file appears as a volume
with up to 77 files, which in turn may be ,dir files which can be
mounted on a different unused units, etc. etc. I am not sure what to
volume size limits are for units 4,5,9..12 but it is likely 16Meg or
32Meg. So all the .dir files must map somewhere in that volume block
count. Do not krunch a unit 4,5.9..12 if a .dir file on it is
mounted. Unmount the .dir files first, krunch the volume, and then
mount the .dir files again. It has been 20 years since I used Apple
Pascal and I can't remember all the details. I know I used the apple
technote on how to split a 800k disk into 2 volumes and relied a lot
on Call A.P.P.L.E Inside Apple Pascal. Eventually everything worked
well and I could manage hundreds of Pascal files on my 20Meg Sider
harddrive. You never need access to all of them at any one time. ;-)
