Not confusing at all. I made a cable to do exactly that and it works 
perfectly.
My monitors are 1084S-P I think. They have the D-9 connector and can be 
switched between analog / digital.
These monitors have an analog / digital button on the back to set the 
mode.
If yours is like this nothing can be easier.
