Actually, I own a GS, a ][C, a few ][+'s, and a ][ (with a four digit serial
number and the partially handwritten manual that came with it). I agree with
your viewpoint of looking at the Apples as a collector would, or as an
interesting challenge to play with (as I do myself).
What I think is not too smart is spending a lot of cash to get them to do
things current machines do normally, like the Second Sight card. You can get
a basic 486/66 for around $500, a SS will almost cost you half that. Or
spending $40 on a washed up shareware game "just cause it could be done". Why
not enjoy your Apples, pick up parts and warez for next to nothing at
shows and such, and do the stuff you wish a GS could do on a PC for half the
price. Any money you spend on a GS will be lost, when you try to sell it
someday no one will care that it can display jpegs or play Wolf 3D, because
there is a limit on how much people will spend on "dead" computers. I own
both types of machines and do not feel it is a personal or spiritual conflict
of interest...and enjoy them both equally (some of the old Apple games are
STILL more fun than the new PC games, I play Lode Runner as much as I do Dark
Forces). There is enough room in the den for everybody. :)
