If I recall correctly, "Adventure" was written by Crowther &
Woods for the DEC PDP-10 minicomputer. I don't remember the date,
but it was back in the '70s--1977 maybe. It was later ported to
the Apple II, of course, and that done very early on, perhaps
1980.
The original version of "Zork" was called "Dungeon" and was also
written on the DEC PDP computer. It incorporated all three
"Zork"s into a single game. I still have a tape of that
somewhere around here that dates from 1981, but I don't know how
old "Dungeon" was by the time I saw it.
Other games that definitely date from around 1980 are the Scott
Adams adventures and the Eamon public-domain gaming system.
Many might argue that the above games are "text adventures" and
not true RPG's.
