I purchased a 1083.3 mb NEC SCSI-2 hard drive last week and put it
on my GS right away. For the time being, I have an original Apple
Rev C SCSI card, so I decided to use system 6.0.1's Advanced Disk
Utilities to partition and format the drive. After about 1/2 hour
of waiting (even before the process had finished) I got an error
message that I can no longer recall. The hard drive does not work.
It's sitting idle beside my GS right now and I can't get it working.
System 6.0.1 now seems to think that the first 32mb partition is a 2gb
partition. I get error $7f00 when I try to format the drive. The
partitions do not show up on the desktop, and sometimes the boot process
doesn't even recognize the drive. This same strange thing has also
happened to one of my 100mb zip disks. Does anyone know what the
solution to this problem is? Is my only recourse to attempt to do
a low-level format with a RamFAST card? I have tried to repair the
drive with ProSel 16 v8.83, but no luck there.
Thanks for any help here.. it'd sure be nice to be freed from the 100mb
drive I've borrowed for now.
