Errrk...Some things should not be done in software. I'm not even sure that
it would have the bitstream at that point...the whole thing is such a bad
hack that it makes my head hurt to think about it. Bleah. :)
I suppose it may have been the entire CLV drive mechanism that was more
expensive, not just the SIWM or SWIM or whatever they call it today. Then
again, perhaps they just wanted to get the last item bearing the designation
"Woz" out of there.
(I realise that the change isn't noticeable to most Mac users, many of whom
have never touched an 800k disk; it is notable that this further weakens the
bridge with older Mac equipment as well as with the GS, though).
On a somewhat related note, is it possible to boot from a floptical on the
GS? Perhaps I'll look out for a cheap one in future.
