Please explain. We are using the Express modem with the Geoport Telecomm
adpater. The modem plugs into the modem/serial port just like any external
modem. The modem is connected to the phone jack just like any external
modem. The modem contains a jack for a telephone just like any external
modem. The modem responds to the AT command set just like any external
modem. The modem draws its power from the serial port _unlike_ a
conventional modem (I think, it does _not_ have any external power
source so I'm assuming it is tapping the serial port. Maybe it has
lifetime sealed batteries!?).
How is the Geoport Express modem so different than a 'modem'.
I share your sentiments. Based on my experience to date, I would NOT
want to get the Geoport Express modem. It worked for 1 day, and 1 day
only! Only I can't prove something is wrong with it - but it just plain
don't work!!! (Poor English used on purpose). The problem may very well
be the SitComm SE software that came with it.
The machine continues to go down hill. Today the print monitor complains
when I try to print to Appletalk Laserwriter II NT. Then the machine locks
up when I click out of the Print Monitor warning. Sigh! I don't think I
am a complete idiot when it comes to installing or configuring. At least
the Mac+, MacSE, and MacLC's haven't thrown me yet, and some have gone
through the whole series of system 6.0.x updates as well as system 7.0
and 7.0 Tuner. I guess 7.5.2 must really be different, even if it looks
the same :)
