The theory is that users shouldn't need to know the error codes, so
they are only listed in programming documentation - programmers are
supposed to display errors as a descriptive message, not using error
numbers.

They are listed in the GS/OS Reference, probably in the GS/OS Device
Driver Reference, the old ProDOS-16 Reference, the ProDOS-8 Technical
Reference, and similar books (Beneath Apple ProDOS, ProDOS Inside and
Out, etc.)

ProDOS-8 error codes are a subset of the GS/OS error codes.

There are also several programmer-oriented utilities (CDAs in
particular) which list them, such as "GS/OS Snooper", which comes with
the GSBug debugger.
