Wow!  I had the same exact problem a few weeks ago and thought my power  
supply had gone dead.  When I finally removed the connector from the 
motherboard and plugged it back in everything worked!  I also have a 
system saver and the green light only comes on if the power supply is 
providing power.
I guess I attribute what happened to a loose wire in the connector where 
it meets the plastic bus or that somehow the connector wasn't seated 
well.  My system is fairly new.  I purchased it about a year ago brand 
new.
