I can see how they are serious. On the "flea markets" around Moscow, you
can fetch a decent price for a ZX81(!). Believe me, a C64 is a power-tool
to these people.

Had you heard the story about the Russian submarine commanders that
glasnosted to their American collegeaus, only to a discover an Apple IIgs
in the mess quarters? When informed that this was for the recreation of
crew members, they boggled. A _very_ similar machine was the main computer
for their flagship nuclear sub. They couldn't conceive being so wasteful as
using such powerful technology to allow crew members to play games.

This may be an urban legend, but there's a core of truth: As far as
computing technology is considered, much of "The East" still lives in the
stone ages. A C64, sold at a decent price, would be perfect for many
budding enterprises that feel the fresh wind of moolah (erm --- freedom and
democracy) in the air, need a computer, but cannot afford a PC clone.
