Well, the batteries that came with the early GSs failed rather suddenly ...
mine croaked around 1991? 1992? I don't remember, anyway about 4-5 years
into its life. I have replaced it with a battery I got from an electronics
supplier. Yes, you can still get them. The voltage is unusual, so you won't
get them at Radio Shack, but Digikey should stock it, for example.

There was also a "slide-on" battery for those to meek to touch a soldering
iron to their GS ... made by Owl. Dunno whether you can still buy those.

Hmm, now that you mention it, every time I start the GS (about twice a
decade), it tells me that the boot device is invalid and it has a silly
time/date. Could that be a bad battery? ;-)

Oi, I can see why Zappa wasn't too popular with some people. Spot on, but
