The "progress" has adverse effect on both the media's and the technology's longevity.

Punched cards (or paper tape) will likely outlive all of us. Clay tablets while not machine readable are known to survive thousands of years.

For the really important stuff I would recommend the stone walls of some nearby cave. Guaranteed for millions of years barring a major geological catastrophe.
