Re: IIgs system

You can run GSOS v6.0.1 from floppies, and I did for a couple of years. The
six disk set includes GSOS set up on a single 3.5" disk. Four of the five
remaining disks contain the tools and utilities to install the system
software on floppy or hard drive system as well as specialized tools for
different types of applications. The 6th disk holds synthLab, a music program
for the IIGS. However, you will need enough memory. Some older IIGS's only
had between 256 kb and 1.25 Mb of RAM. GSOS v6.0.1 requires a minimum of 1.25
Mb to run. Four Mb RAM cards are fairly common these days and I _highly_
recomend getting one. Also, hard drives are fairly inexpensive. Alltech
Electronics sells a really nice little 20 Mb drive & card for less than $100.
The GS reallt shines with a little extra memory and at least a small hard
drive. The next best thing is enough memory (4 Mb is fine) to set up your
system software on a RAM disk.
