Help needed with Downloads

  I have been having trouble lately with downloading files.  It is only
 with my internet server.  When I have anywhere from 24 to 3 seconds left
 to download it says:   Error: 1
                             Abort
 It then aborts the file transfer.  I can usually get short files 
 like 139 that are zipped but nothing more than a couple hundred. I also
 have tried to download a couple of large files ---400k--- and it also
 aborts after about a minute or so.  I have NO problem downloading from
 GEnie or with my friends.  One day I tried Proterm (instead of Spectrum,
 which is what I use 99% of the time) and it said : The receive operation
 was terminated by the remote system.  I also tried my friends 486 IBM
 compatible (petuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!) it cancelled the 
 download when there was 10 seconds left.  I  have been dealing with this
 problem for WEEKS and would really like a solution.  I have been at this
 server for over 6 months and before the middle of September I have 
 downloaded  TONS of stuff with no trouble.  Is it my server?  I really
 would appreciate an answer!   thanks!
