SecondSight thoughts...

I just received my SecondSight card on Friday, and have been playing
with it a bit (of course). My first thought was, "my, everything's
big on this 15" monitor!" My second thought was, "now _this_ is Plug
and Play!" No configuration, jumpers, switches, or drivers; just plug
it in and turn it on. Not even an "Add new hardware Wizard"--it just
worked.

It's nice to think that my 7.5-year-old GS has more display capability
than my 6-month-old PC notebook, too--the notebook can't do 24-bit
color, even with an external monitor. So much for the "II is dead"
argument... (-:

So far, it seems to keep up with "normal" video as far as speed is
concerned, though there are, occasionally, minor display glitches in
Diversi-Tune and other places--a few pixels don't get cleared when
they should. Menu drawing isn't quite as smooth as the built-in video
either, which is understandable given the shadow technique used.

The only real problem is SecondView--it just doesn't seem to be quite
stable yet, and it has a nasty habit of hanging at odd times. The
fact that it clips pictures at 640x700 is a little annoying, too.
It's still a work in progress, I guess, and I'll be interested to see
how it develops. I'd really like to see JPEG support in there, but it
seems that that's being worked on as well. Patience... (-:
