You CAN get a filetype assignment!
In light of some recent questions, I thought it might be useful to post this
again. This is the original message I posted here a few months ago. I
apologize to anyone that's already seen it.
A2PRO NOW PROVIDES OFFICIAL FILETYPE ASSIGNMENTS!
The Apple II Programmers RoundTable on GEnie (A2Pro) recently announced that
it is now the official repository of the Apple II file type database!
What does this mean to you? It means if you're writing or publishing an
Apple II program that needs a new filetype for its data files, you can once
again get one assigned to you!
In a final effort to avoid leaving what was left of the loyal Apple II
programming community in the wind when they finally eliminated the Apple II
division at Apple Computer last year, Apple turned over the Filetype
Database and assignment duties to the A2Pro RT on GEnie!
A2Pro will be providing this service free to the entire Apple II community.
All Apple II users and developers, including those without GEnie accounts
may participate. From outside of GEnie, interested persons can email us at
<a2pro@genie.com> for information and requests.
If you happen to have a GEnie account, you can download file #4729 from the
A2Pro Library on page 530 for more details about the Filetype Assignment
program, and check out Category 11, Topic 20 in out Bulletin Board for
ongoing discussion of issues related to the program.
If you do not have a GEnie account, you can request the assignment
guidelines and the assignment form by emailing <a2pro@genie.com>.
