Children's Write & Pub on ][e prob?

I just started working as the Computer Teacher at a school which has four 
][es and one ][ plus.  I tried booting up the program "Children's Writing 
& Publishing" (5.25 disks) on the ][es and all I get are a scren full of 
gibberish characters on one and a blank screen on the other.  When tried 
on the ][ plus I get the message "needs 128 k).  This is very confusing 
to me because:
-  I've tried several copies of CW&P.
- I've used CW & P on ][es for years on other ][es at other schools
-  I've tried copies from those other schools on ours.
- other programs will load OK
-  The IIe are supposed to have 128k standard (and the ][ plus looks 
fully loaded with RAM - 3 rows of 8 chips)
-  no one at Apple has a clue
- no one at The Learning Company has a clue

Anyone ever come across this phenomena and discovered its cause??????
