It sounds like what you have on the Mac is a 5.25 PC drive connected to 
the card for it.  This will not work for making disks for the Apple II 
series computers.  Even though the disk size is the same, the method of 
storing data on the disk is very different (MFM vs. GCR, I think).  In 
order to use or make 5.25 disks for the Apple II on a Mac, you need to 
have an Apple 5.25 Drive hooked up to a IIe PDS card in an LC series or 
Color Classic Mac.

The easiest way to do this is to get in touch with a local users group.  
If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll be glad to make some stuff for 
you for a small fee to cover disks and shipping.
