I've been a big fan of the Apple II and especially AppleWorks. I grew up
on on my Apple II.

Apple has made mistakes in the past including the way they handled the
Apple II and Apple ///, how they've marketed the Macintosh and how they
refused to allow cloning. That aside, I don't necessarily buy a computer
just because I like the company.

You have to ask yourself: Does a Mac do what I want? Does it do it well?
Is it priced at what I'm willing to pay?

The Macintosh will be around for quite a while. Apple has realized the
importance of bringing along their older customers (Apple has done a much
better job of supporting old apps in new versions of the OS than say
Microsoft).

I also don't think it's too late for the Mac Clone market. Yes, Apple will
not get 80% market share, but they will get a much more significant share
in the next 3-5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if you see a 30+% of Macs
(vs. the 10% today) by the year 2000.

The Mac OS is a much better personal interface than Windows 95. Apple
still has technologies available today that Microsoft still dreams about
(like speech recognication, speech synthesis, File Translation System --
allowing you to read/write Apple II Prodos, Macintosh, and PC disks with
your internal drive).

PowerMacs are the best. To give you a taste of the power, I'll just
mention our Deja ][ product (from JEM Software) that allows you to run
AppleWorks 5 at blazing speeds on a PM (works on a 68k machine too, but
not as fast). My PM 7100/80 runs AppleWorks 5 time tests about as fast as
a 8Mhz+ GS. I haven't tried then new 120Mhz 601 or the 120Mhz 604 (the 604
is said to be almost 100% faster than the 601 at the same clock speed).

Just my $0.02.
