Did you try SilverLining? This is also supposed to be good, but I
haven't used either.

This is probably the case with most driver software supplied with
drives - it does the bare minimum needed to get the drive working, but
doesn't make any allowance for optional features like shared use with
an Apple II. I expect the dedicated SCSI utilties like HDT and
SilverLining are much more flexible.

It does. My system has seven ProDOS partitions from my hard drive
accessible (all eleven if I disable slots 5 and 7). My Apple HS SCSI
card is in slot 4, but this should be irrelevant.
Might you have a patched copy of ProDOS-8? A patch was publicised for
use with the RamFast to disable ProDOS-8's remapping (to avoid
conflicts with the RamFast's own remapping).
Another possibility (but rather less likely) is that you have no slots
available (as far as the remapping is concerned). The ProDOS-8
remapping will not use the second unit for a slot if the first unit is
used. e.g. my PC Transporter only provides one unit - /RAMAEPC in
S7,D1, but the remapping does not attempt to use S7,D2. The same goes
for my SuperDrive card in slot 6.
In my system, the SmartPort remapping makes use of slot 1 (AppleTalk),
slot 2 (Modem Port) and S3,D1.
Another possible problem is if you have several SmartPort-compatible
controllers with more than two units. In this case, there may be
insufficient ProDOS units available for remapping.
I don't think either of these is particularly likely.
