I'm sorry I didn't followup earlier, but I was expecting someone to post
some helpful info. When my 4MHz Zip died in my //e, it was intermittent
errors in Appleworks (probably v3, but it could have been v2.0 still).
Everything else worked fine, just AW would unexpectly bomb. I even talked
to a good Zip techie. He suggested some things to try (which I have
forgotten) with the zip config, suggested a possible problem chip on the
//e motherboard, etc. (It was all related to aux mem switching and stuff
if I recall). In the end, I replaced the 4MHz with a 8MHz chip and all
was well. I still have that old Zip chip. I tried it in a //e. 64K
and 128K stuff seemed fine. But Appleworks would still bomb. So it
sits unused in a drawer. [No, I will not sell or give it away - don't
anyone ask].
Not much help, huh? But my Zip seemed to die just like yours. Sorry.
