CoolWriter vs. ShadowWrite

CoolWriter is still in its infancy, even with the v2.0.1 release.
ShadowWrite has rulers, which are noticeably lacking in CoolWriter.
CoolWriter v2.0.1 comes up to speed on other things, though... one thing to
note is that ShadowWrite is an NDA which means it's more convenient than
CoolWriter. However, CoolWriter has one feature which I don't think ANY
other GS word processor has: automatic form letter handling (limited mail
merge if you will). I've gotten a lot of use out of this function already.
This is mostly for mailing "personalized" mass letters (Ed McMahon style) to
people. You can print in batches of up to 100, but there's a catch: You have
to make a document AND then you have to make a "template" which has all the
names, addresses, etc. However, it's MUCH more convenient than Softdisk
G-S's QuickForms because with QuickForms, you have to make a specially
formatted document and THEN, for EACH letter you want to print, call up a
dialog and input values for the fields, and then print that letter; then you
have to repeat the process all over again... with CoolWriter, you make the
template all at once, although you can modify it later, then you print 100
letters at a time! See the CoolWriter v2.0.1 online help for details.

CoolWriter v3.0 is a definite possibility. I am considering adding rulers,
macros, and other functions. I'd love getting e-mails of encouragement for
this, because I have no plans to ever charge $$$ for CoolWriter. And then
there's the possibility of v4.0 with really cool features that'll blow you
away! =)
