Just a little update, I've managed to get the internal 5.25 drive
working, however it will only read disks. The same applies to any 5.25
drives connected externally, they can read data but cannot write. Unless
there's something I've missed, I'm going to assume the IWM chip is at fault.

Oops, I just realized there is no built-in self test on the original
//c ROM FF (255). So it appears at least this part is normal.
I would still like to know if Apple will do free motherboard swaps.
I had a closer look today and it from the looks of things, this //c has the
problem with the serial ports where they are 3% slower than normal (there's
an oscillator at location C7 rather than a 74LS161 TTL chip). Of course it
also has the original 16K firmware ROM and a faulty IWM, so the ideal solution
would be a motherboard swap.
