IIc to mac? maybe?

Hi, I might sound like a complete idiot asking about this, but it seems 
like I remember reading in AppleII incider magazine a really long time 
ago, that you could somehow upgrade an appleIIe (or maybe it was a GS)
into some really primitive form of Mac (512 maybe?) anyway I had tossed 
the magazine because then, the II was merely a memory of childhood (I'm 
young ok?) but last month I saw a IIc at a pawn shop and I couldn't resist.
So was I hallucinating?
