  I'm not sure what you mean like "flickering"; I'd check for any 
magnetic interference on the cable; try _not_ mounting the SS cable
to the back of the GS (run the computer with the cable hanging in the 
air).

  I get so much email that sometimes one gets buried.

  That's normal; the Control Panel is changing all of the Palettes,
and SS has to redraw the screen when that happens.
