My GS burps on those once in a while...  usually just eject the disk and 
pop it back in and all is well.  If that doesn't help, perhaps the disk 
needs to be reformatted...  I have discovered that over time, The GS 
tends to wear out an HFS disk if it does a lot of writing to it.

I don't know if it's in ftp.apple.com or not, but Apple File Exchange is 
what you're looking for.  The ProDOS File System Extension is a better 
idea in my opinion, but I think Apple charges for that one.  It comes 
with the newer system software though.  Apple File Exchange should be 
available on ftp.apple.com, I hope, as I know it's available on most of 
the online services...
