I always figured that the gs was discontinued first was becasue
the //e had a much larger computer base and software base.
Plus schools were still buying //es.  GS's in my experience, never
caught on as an education computer.  Very little sfotware for
education was written that was specific to the gs.   There was a
demand for the //e from a source that could speak loud, the 
school systems of America.   //gs have always been mostly a hobby
computer.
