Remember, part of that 128K is taken by the OS (16K, more or less) and part
is taken by AppleWorks itself (it's gotta run from somewhere). 56K is
what's left after everything else is loaded in and running.

Your AppleWorks is from 1985? That's definitely ancient. Newer versions
won't do you any good without adding RAM. AppleWorks 4.x and 5.0 won't even
load in less than 256K. AppleWorks 3.0 works on a 128K machine, but you're
left with only a 40K desktop.

OTOH, adding RAM won't do you any good if you're using AppleWorks 1.x
because they only recognized 128K. AppleWorks 2.0 and later versions will
use memory on an Apple II Memory Expansion Card (or equivalent). AppleWorks
3.0 and later versions will also use memory on a RamWorks (or equivalent).

Nope. If you need to work with larger spreadsheets, get more RAM and make
sure your version of AppleWorks will use that RAM.

Load 'em into ClarisWorks and save 'em in Excel format. There might also be
some translation program that'll do this. Your files will need to be on
3.5" floppies, of course, or you won't be able to get the AppleWorks files
into a Mac at all.
