Card Questions(?)
I've got a few questions pertaining to an enhanced Apple //e system which I
recently got after a long hiatus from Apple II's. I'd like to spruce it
up a bit, and there in lie my questions... my apologies to those of you for
whom this is old news (but I couldn't find answers in the FAQ):
1. I'd like to add more memory in addition to the 128K on board (counting
the 64K on the 80col/64k/RGB card). I'm aware the Apple makes (made) a 1Meg
board, and AE make both the RamFactor and RamWorks (in several incarnations)
board. Basically I need to know the diffrence between what these boards do,
their compatibility with software (AppleWorks, say), specific slot requirements
and whether they need some driver software to be used.
2. An accelerator card would be next - but I understand AE's Transwarp is not
DMA compatible with the Apple High Speed SCSI Card - is this true in general or
are there newer versions of Transwarp that do not have this problem - and if
so, which versions? Also, the same questions I have about the memory cards -
compatibility, slot requirements, drivers?
3. I'm quickly running out of space (seven slots just isn't enough any more).
Is there anyway to use slot 3 - keeping in mind I have (and want) the 80col/RGB
card in the AUX slot?
4. I'm thinking of hooking a ink jet printer like a StyleWriter or one of
Canon's many bubblejet printers to the //e. Has anyone out there tried with
much success? What kind of card (serial/parallel) and driver did you use? And
how compatible was it with //e software - i.e. if I can get the printer to run
as an emulated Epson (say) would that suffice (i.e. no need for new software
etc?)?
Sorry for the multiple multipart questions - but I thought putting them all in
one place would save on browsers having to 'skip' past more than one of my
ignorant postings.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
