It could also be the brightness (?) pot, found near the video connector on
the motherboard. It's a small round pot that can be turned with a
screwdriver. I have an old Apple ][+ sitting in a cupboard, and it had
problems with the video blanking out late in it's life because the pot had
a loose connection.
