AppleTalk with Mac Plus and IIe

Yes.  You'll need an AppleTalk card for the IIe, and an appropriate
cable between the two machines (a simple "Mac to ImageWriter II" cable
is sufficient unless you want to connect another device to the
network).

The Mac must be running System 7, with File Sharing installed,
configured and enabled.  Alternatively, you can run the full
AppleShare server software on the Mac, but this is very expensive.

AppleShare 2.x runs under System 6, but takes over the whole machine.

AppleShare 3.x and 4.x run under System 7, and can be used at the same
time as other applications.

To be able to boot the IIe over the network from the Mac, you must
have AppleShare 2.x or 3.x.  Version 4.0 and later do not support
network booting from an Apple II.  System 7's File Sharing doesn't
support this either.


The Mac's hard drive must have a ProDOS-compatible file name: no more
than fifteen characters, starting with a letter, only containing
letters, digits and periods.

Any folders and files to be accessed by the Apple II must follow the
same rules.
