I'm new on csa2 and have read the stuff about upgrading Zips with interest. So I was surprised to discover that when I put a 40MHz osc into my Zip's socket using the standard CPU for the Zip 7MHz unit...it WORKED!!! I got 10MHz with the standard CPU.
